3/4¢ Sales Tax for Police and Fire Pension System, November 3, 2009
With the passage of Council Bill 2009-207, City Council approved an election on November 3, 2009 for citizens of Springfield to consider a new, 3/4¢ sales tax for the sole purpose of funding the Police and Firefighters Pension System.
Council Bill 2009-235 outlines City Council's commitment to the citizens of Springfield, should this sales tax proposal pass.
Council Bill 2009-253 is a general ordinance amending section 2-444 of the Springfield City Code modifying the composition of the Board of Trustees of the Springfield Police and Firefighters Pension System.
Council Bill 2009-254 is a resolution clarifying the intent of City Council in proposing a ¾ cent Pension Tax.

Question 1
“Shall the City of Springfield impose a sales tax at a rate of three-quarter of one percent (3/4-cent) solely for the purpose of providing revenues for the Springfield Police Officers’ and Firefighters’ Pension System, with said tax to sunset upon the Pension System fund reaching a fully-funded (100%) status as determined by an independent actuarial study conducted for the Pension System Board of Trustees?”
Instructions to voters: If you are in favor of the question, place an "X" in the box opposite "yes." If you are opposed to the question, place an "X" in the box opposite "No."
