Movies at Founders Park

Outdoor Movies are a contemporary version of the drive-in theatre at a park on Springfield's founding site. Enjoy some of today's new release and pre-home release movies. It's a wonderful way for the family to enjoy summer nights.

  • Dates: Fridays and Saturdays, July 11 - August 30
  • Time: Movies begin at dusk
  • Cost: FREE with ticket/family 4-Packs available at the Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers, Mediacom Ice Park, the Busch Municipal Building, and Mediacom Offices (1533 S. Enterprise). Admission without a free ticket is $5; children 5 years of age and under are always free.

July 11 – “Wizard of OZ” (G) - Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas until a cyclone arrives, and picks her, her house, and her dog up and deposits them in the land of Oz. Wishing to return home, she travels to the Emerald City to find the great wizard. On her way she meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who desperately needs courage. They all hope the Wizard of Oz will help them before the Wicked Witch of the West catches up with them.

July 12 – “The Bucket List” (PG-13) - Corprate billionaire Edward Cole and working class mechanic Carter Chambers have nothing in common except for their terminal illnesses. While sharing a hospital room together, they decide to leave and do everything they've dreamed of doing before dying. In the process, both of them heal each other, become unlikely friends, and ultimately find the joy in life.

July 18 – “Surf's Up” (PG) - Cody Maverick (LaBeouf) is a penguin who has a passion for surfing. Hitching a ride to Pen Gu Island, Cody and his chicken friend, Joe (Heder) attempt to participate in the Big Z Memorial Surf Off. This documentary tracks his steps from leaving his home, training with Big Z (Bridges) and attempting the big challenge.

July 19 – “Definitely, Maybe” (PG-13) - When Will decides to tell his daughter the story of how he met her mother, he discovers that a second look at the past might also give him a second chance at the future. It's the heartwarming story that makes you realize it's definitely never too late to go back...and maybe find a happy ending.

July 25 – “The Last Mimzy” (PG) - Noah and Emma Wilder are a young brother and sister who find a mysterious box during a family beach outing. Items in the box soon show themselves to have (and give) abilities to the youngsters, as their parents gradually grow concerned. They are not alone in taking note of these changes. Noahs science teacher, along with his Tibetan Buddhist fiancĂ©e get involved, as well as government forces.

July 26 – “Ocean's Thirteen” (PG-13) - Danny Ocean and the gang would have only one reason to pull off their most ambitious and riskiest casino heist - to defend one of their own. When ruthless casino owner Willy Bank double-crosses one of the original Ocean's eleven - Reuben Tishkoff - Danny and the gang team up one more time to see if they can break “the Bank.”

August 1 – “Shrek the Third” (PG) - When his new father-in-law, King Harold falls ill, Shrek is looked at as the heir to the land of Far, Far Away. Not one to give up his beloved swamp, Shrek recruits his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to install the rebellious Artie as the new king. Princess Fiona, however, rallies a band of royal girlfriends to fend off a coup d'etat by the jilted Prince Charming.

August 2 – “We Are Marshall” (PG) - In November, 1970, virtually the entire football team and coaches of Marshall University (Huntington, W.V.) die in a plane crash. That spring, led by a player who missed the fatal flight, students rally to convince the board of governors to play the 1971 season. They petition the NCAA to allow freshmen to play, and coach Jack Lengyel motivates and leads young players at the same time that he reexamines the Lombardi creed that winning is the only thing.

August 8 – “The Water Horse: Legends of the Deep” (PG) - Angus, a young Scottish boy, finds an enchanted egg. Taking it home, he soon finds himself face-to-face with an amazing creature: the mythical "water horse" of Scottish lore. Angus begins a journey of discovery, facing his greatest fears and risking his life to protect a secret that would give birth to a legend.

August 9 – “The Guardian” (PG-13) - A high school swim champion with a troubled past enrolls in the U.S. Coast Guard's "A" School, where legendary rescue swimmer Ben Randall teaches him some hard lessons about loss, love, and self-sacrifice.

August 15 – “Ratatouille” (G) - Remy is a young rat in the French countryside who arrives in Paris, only to find out that his cooking idol is dead. When he makes an unusual alliance with a restaurant's new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite Remy's family's skepticism and the rat-hating world of humans.

August 16 – “P.S. I Love You” (PG-13) - Holly Kennedy is beautiful, smart, and married to the love of her life - a passionate, funny and impetuous Irishman named Gerry. So when Gerry's life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly. The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there. Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry. So it's a good thing he planned ahead.

August 22 – “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” (PG-13) - Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community has been denied the truth about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort.

August 23 – “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End” (PG-13) - Elizabeth Swann, Will Turner and Captain Barbossa go to Singapore to get a ship and crew with the despicable Captain Sao Feng to rescue Jack Sparrow from the land of the dead. After many betrayals and deals, they summon the nine pirate Captains to gather in the Brethren Court with the intention to release the goddess Calypso from her human body of Tia Delma and face the powerful Davey Jones and Lord Cutler Beckett.

August 29 – “Hairspray” (PG) - It's 1962 and teenagers Tracy Turnblad and her friend Penny Pingleton are watching the Corny Collins show. When the chance to dance on the show arrives, Tracy quickly takes the opportunity. Not only does he dancing skills attract Corny Collins, but also the attention of teenage heart throb, Link Larkin. But not everyone is happy with the decision to have her dance on the show.

August 30 – “Casablanca” (PG) - Rick Blaine, who owns a nightclub in Casablanca, discovers his old flame Ilsa is in town with her husband, Victor Laszlo. Laszlo is a résistance leader, and with Germans on his tail, Ilsa knows Rick can help them get out of the country - but will he?
