Construction is set to begin on the first phase of the Jordan Creek Greenway,
which extends from Boonville Avenue on the south side of Water Street east to
the Benton Avenue Viaduct. The project will connect Boonville Avenue to Jordan
Valley Park and Founders Park. The Greenway is expected to be complete for the
anticipated opening of the Phase One Park in Jordan Valley in May 2002.
Dean
Hartman Construction received the bid for the project, which has an estimated
construction cost of $364,101. Scott Consulting Engineers is doing the design
and engineering work on the project. The Greenway will include an asphalt trail,
landscaping, lighting, a decorative pedestrian crossing at Jefferson Avenue
and streetscape improvements on the south side of Water Street. The trail extends
east of Jefferson on former Missouri Pacific Railroad right of way, purchased
last summer by the City as a part of the property owned by Meeks Lumber Company.
The total length of trail and streetscape is about 1,470 feet.
The design for this project has been approved by both the Springfield-Greene County Park Board and the Jordan Valley Park Advisory Committee. Another portion of the Greenway also is under construction within the Phase One Park project. The next phase of the Jordan Creek Greenway will extend west from Water Street, while further streetscape improvements are planned along Boonville Avenue north of Water Street.
