What Can I Recycle?
Common Items
Aluminum, tin, paper (list of paper types), cardboard, plastic (#1-#7), and glass are accepted at several recycling centers in Springfield.
Uncommon Items
Did you know you can recycle cell phones, tires, carpet, smoke detectors, printer cartridges, styrofoam, fire extinguishers, and more at local businesses?

Chemicals
The Household Chemical Collection Center, or HCCC, accepts many types of chemicals such as pesticides, household cleaners, lighter fluid, automotive products, and more.
Yardwaste
Yardwaste is accepted primarily at the Yardwaste Recycling Center, with some yardwaste items also accepted at the Franklin and Lone Pine recycling centers. Yardwaste includes things like:
- grass clippings
- leaves
- garden and flowerbed vegetation
- shrub trimmings

TV's can be taken to the Computer Recycling Center.
Because latex (water-based) paint can be disposed of safely in the trash if the following procedures are in place, we encourage residents to use the following alternative.
Soak up paint by mixing it with an absorbent material (ex. cat litter) or a commercially prepared absorbent (ex. waste paint hardener) available at hardware/home improvement stores. Place the empty and completely dry paint can in your trash to be picked up by your waste hauler. Lids must be removed for the hauler's inspection.
