Traffic Accident Reports

You may receive a copy of a Traffic Accident Report in one of two ways:

1. If the accident occurred within the last six months, you may view the report online. You must have the report number given to you by the Springfield Police Officer at the scene of the accident. You may download and/or print the report as needed. Please allow three days from the time of the accident before it will be available online. There is no charge for this service. Enter the report number without dashes. Example: 07-12345 is 0712345

2. If the accident occurred more than six months ago, you will need to follow the procedure given below. There will be a charge for this service as explained below.

Traffic Accident Reports and/or Incident Reports

Requests for copies of reports may be made in person or by mail. The Information Request Form must be completed for each report you are requesting. An online PDF version of the form may be printed and completed by hand or you can obtain the form at the South District Station or Headquarters.

There is a handling fee of $1.50 plus 10¢ per page for each report requested. Any request that is more difficult to fulfill (retrieval from archives, etc.) will cost more depending on time spent by staff. This fee may be paid when you pick up the report. If you would rather have the report mailed or faxed to you, we will notify you of the cost and you can send payment. Make checks payable to the Director of Finance, Springfield Police Department. We will mail or fax the report after receiving payment.

There is a three-business-day processing period that begins after the request has been received by the Records Section. Special requests may take longer to complete. Please provide as much of the following information as possible:

• Report number (report numbers are not the same as ticket numbers)
• Date and time of occurrence
• Location of occurrence (exact street address or intersection)
• Type of occurrence (traffic accident, burglary, vandalism, etc.)
• Full names of parties involved (names of drivers and/or victims)
