The City of Springfield works off a five-year Capital Improvement Program developed from citizen input and approved by City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Many construction projects are funded by the voter-approved 1/4 cent capital improvements tax or the 1/8 cent voter-approved transportation tax.

The Missouri Department of Transportation site (MoDOT) provides state-wide, up-to-the-minute postings on conditions and construction of our region's state highways. Springfield and our District 8 information is easily accessed using MoDOT's site's map.

The local Ozarks Traffic site lists up-to-the-minute construction progress and anticipated delays.

During winter months, a map of Springfield's snow routes is available for download.

Route 65/14 Interchange Reconstruction
One eastbound lane of Route 14 could be closed at night to allow crews to begin work to build bridge ends at the southwest edge of the Route 14 bridge over Route 65.  Dump trucks will haul rock and dirt from the southbound off ramp at the northwest corner of the bridge to the southbound on ramp at the southwest corner.

Contractor crews will set concrete barriers underneath the Route 14 bridge along the outside shoulders of Route 65.

The work is part of a project to widen Route 14 to five-lanes between 16th and 22nd Streets, widen the Route 14 bridge over Route 65, widen the ramps at the interchange to provide additional turn lanes and build new sidewalks, storm drains and concrete islands.

Scheduled completion: November 2009.

Glenstone Avenue / Primrose Street Widening
Nighttime lane closings are possible on Glenstone Avenue and Primrose Street.   Contractor crews will build islands and work on traffic signals at the intersection.

During daylight hours, crews could close turn lanes to work on islands and do general clean up work around the project.

The work is part of a project to add dual left turn lanes at the intersection, build right-turn lanes, install new storm drains and add new traffic signals.

Scheduled completion: November 2008.

Glenstone Avenue Interchange
The shoulder along eastbound Route 60 is closed just west of the Glenstone Avenue interchange in the area of the new eastbound off-ramp.

Crews will lay asphalt in various locations throughout the project – AWAY from traffic.

Crews will install new traffic signals at the intersection of Republic Road/Harvard Avenue and the eastbound ramps of Route 60 and install street lighting and road signs throughout the project.

Crews will build a new stormwater detention basin at the corner of Republic Road and Harvard Avenue.

Republic Road is closed between a point east of Charleston Avenue and a point west of Old Glenstone Avenue through early November. Drivers are urged to use Glenstone Avenue, James River Freeway and National Avenue to get around the closing of Republic Road.

The work scheduled is part of a project to rebuild and relocate the eastbound Route 60 ramps, raise and widen Republic Road to five lanes and build a new intersection at Republic Road/Harvard Avenue/Route 60 eastbound ramps.

Scheduled completion: Fall 2008.

Northbound Route 13 Lane Relocation North of Springfield
Contractor crews will grade and haul rock and dirt along the entire length of the project. Drivers should be alert for slow-moving dump trucks entering and leaving the project, using both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 13.

The crossovers at Farm Road 34 and 44 are both closed to traffic. The crossovers could be closed for several months. A detour is set up to allow vehicles to use the crossover at Greene County Routes CC/BB to access northbound or southbound Route 13.

The work is part of a project to relocate the northbound lanes of Route 13 between Pinewood Drive on the south and Farm Road 6 on the north.

Scheduled completion: June 2009.

Route 266 Relocation / Airport Boulevard Construction West of Springfield
The westbound lanes of I-44 may be closed to traffic during nighttime hours early in the week. If both lanes of the interstate need to be closed in one direction, I-44 traffic will be routed over the ramps. The closings will take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Crews are working to rehabilitate the eastbound side of the Chestnut Expressway bridge over I-44. Chestnut Expressway traffic is shifted to the westbound side of the bridge over I-44, with only one lane of traffic in each direction.

Crews will grade dirt and haul rock to build a new section of Route 266 between I-44 and Kaylor Road. Crews will pave the new round-about at Route EE, Airport Boulevard and Farm Road 124 – AWAY from traffic.

EARLY HEADS UP: The round-about at Route EE is scheduled to open to traffic the week of October 1. When the round-about is opened, Farm Road 124 will be closed at Route EE for up to three weeks to allow crews to build the connection from Farm Road 124 to the new round-about. During the farm road closing, drivers will have to find an alternate route.

Crews will grade for the new Airport Boulevard between Route EE and Route 266. Crews will work to build the deck of the new railroad bridge on Airport Boulevard.

Farm Road 107 (Kaylor Road) is closed to traffic.

The new Airport Boulevard will parallel old Farm Road 107 (Kaylor Road) between Route 266 and Route EE (West Division Street).

The project involves building Airport Boulevard between Route 266 and the new Springfield-Branson National Airport terminal, building a new round-about at the intersection of Airport Boulevard, Route EE and Farm Road 124, relocating Route 266 to the north of the existing roadway and rehabilitating the Chestnut Expressway bridge over I-44. Scheduled completion: December 2008.
