In anticipation of the April 4, 2017 election, the City Clerk's office will have candidate information packets available to be picked up starting October 24, 2016. 

NOTE:  Packets may be downloaded; however, petition forms must be picked up in person in the City Clerk's office, at which time the candidate will declare the seat for which they are running.  Petitions must be turned in to the Office of the City Clerk between December 5, 2016 and January 17, 2017.  
 
Petitions may not be turned in earlier than December 5, 2016 at 8:00 am and no later than January 17, 2017 at 5:00 pm.

  • Mayor
  • Zone 1 Councilmember
  • Zone 2 Councilmember - Filling the remainder of the term until April 2019
  • Zone 4 Councilmember
  • General Councilmember A
  • General Councilmember B 

Qualifications


To run for City Council, you must:
  • Be a qualified and registered voter of the city
  • Be a resident of the city for at least two years immediately prior to election
  • If filing for one of the zone seats, must be a resident of your respective zone for at least one year immediately prior to election
  • Not be a candidate or nominee for any other paid public office (exceptions: National Guard, Naval or Military Reserve, or Notary Public)
  • Not be employed by the City of Springfield or any of its departments (except for Public Safety see RSMo Section 67.145), boards, or agencies during or for 1 year after serving on the Council.  Public Safety employees should contact the City Attorney's Office for clarification of their ability to run.
  • Not be disqualified under RsMO 115.306.1 (Federal or Felony Conviction)
  • Not be disqualified under RsMO 115.306.2 (1) (Delinquent Taxes).
  • I have completed and filed form 5120 per RsMO 115.306.2 (2) 

Petition Criteria


Valid petitions must meet the following criteria:

  • Zone Seats - 100 registered voters, who reside in the particular zone
  • General Seats and Mayor - 200 registered voters, who reside within the city limits
