Republic Street Widening

Project Map (PDF)

Project Objectives:
Design, acquire right-of-way and construct improvements to widen Republic Road to five lanes from a point west of Fremont to a point west of the bridge crossing James River Freeway west of National Avenue.  Project will also reconstruct Republic Road and National Avenue intersection with dual left turn lanes.

Traffic Impacts During Construction:
Construction activities will have large impacts to traffic on Republic Street and on National Avenue at Republic Street. Roadways will remain open during the day, but closure is allowed at night from 9:30 PM to 5:30 AM Sunday night through Thursday morning. No construction activity is allowed at the intersection of Republic Street and National Street on Sundays from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  While the girders are being placed and painting is being done on the bridge over James River Freeway, James River Freeway can be closed at night.
