FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE>
As students get ready to head back to class, the Springfield Fire Department is reminding drivers to use caution while behind the wheel. The fact is, firefighters respond to more medical emergencies than to fires.
A large number of those medical emergencies are the result of motor vehicle crashes. The department encourages all drivers to slow down in school zones to protect children who are walking and riding to school.
To help remind drivers, a sign is hung at every fire station that reads “Help Protect Our Children. Slow Down in School Zones.”
The department hopes this visual reminder is a small step toward protecting our community’s most important asset ... children.
