  • Slow Art Day
    Saturday, April 12
    11 AM - 2 PM, Springfield Art Museum

    Participants will be asked to look at several works of art for at least 10 minutes each. The group will then meet for a brown-bag lunch on the Museum's grounds to discuss their experiences.

  • "The Rape of Europa" Screening at Moxie Cinema
    Saturday, April 19
    1 - 3:30 PM, Moxie Cinema

    SAM and the Moxie will present a screening of "The Rape of Europa," a documentary about Adolf Hitler's attempts to steal the great masterpieces of European art and the ordinary men and women who worked to stop him. The film screening will be followed immediately by a panel discussion regarding the ethical issues museums face when dealing with contested objects.

  • Arbor Day Tree Planing
    Friday, April 25
    10 AM, SAM Amphitheater

    SAM staff and volunteers will plant eight trees in the Museum's amphitheater. This is the launch of a number of tree plantings that will take place on the Museum's grounds in the coming years.

  • SMMA 85th Anniversary Gala
    Saturday, April 26
    6 - 10:30 PM, White River Conference Room

    Join the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates in celebrating the 85th anniversary of the Springfield Art Museum! The theme is "the Roaring '20s," and there will be dinner, a cash bar, silent and live auctions, and dancing to the music of local band Caduceus.

  • Artsfest on Historic Walnut Street
    Saturday-Sunday, May 3-4
    10 Am - 6 PM (Sat)/10 AM - 5 PM (Sun)
    $5/person at gate, $3 at area McDonald's. Free for children 5 & under.

    SAM and ideaXfactory will sponsor the Live Art area at Artsfest in which artists and writers will collaborate on public artworks. Activities will also include a drawing wall where the public can illustrate stories and a children's puppet-making area.

  • Audubon Family Day
    Saturday, May 10
    1 - 4 PM, SAM lobby, galleries, & grounds

    This Family Day will feature printmaking, Audubon interpreter Chris Pistole, and other gallery activities. Andy's is donating free cups of custard.

  • Lobby Project Artist Talk Featuring Miles Neidinger
    Friday, May 16
    6:30 - 7:30 PM, SAM Auditorium

    Kansas City-based artist Miles Neidinger will speak about his installation in SAM's lobby, composed of recyclable mixed media materials, as well as his influences and process.
