ABOUT WATERCOLOR U.S.A.

Watercolor U.S.A. is a nationally known, annual juried exhibition recognizing aqueous media painting. Featuring some of the country's best known artists and jurors, the event is open to artists from all 50 states and U.S. territories. Hundreds of entries are received annually and judged for a variety of prizes and possible purchase by the Museum or its patrons. Approximately $40,000 in cash, merchandise, patron and Springfield Art Museum purchase awards are available. Organized in 1962 by the Springfield Art Museum, this event attracts thousands of visitors annually to the Museum and to Springfield to view the work of exhibitors.

Marlin Rotach, Imp's Glow. Winner of the Robert E. Goodier Memorial $1,000 Cash Award for Traditional Transparent Watercolor given by his children, Winslow and Elizabeth.

Judge Sandra Schaffer selected 125 works by 107 artists for the 2011 exhibition. 30 states are represented in the exhibition.

A total of 349 artists entered 639 paintings. Entries were received from 42 states and the District of Columbia.

The Springfield Art Museum selected Judi Betts' Coalie and Jake as a Museum Purchase Award. Five additional works were added to the Museum's Permanent Collections through the generosity of the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates and the Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society.

Kent Addison's watercolor, On Target with Jan Van Eyck #2172

Kent Addison, On Target with Jan Van Eyck #2172. Winner of a Springfield Art Museum Purchase Award and the Robert E. Goodier Memorial $1,000 Cash Award for Traditional Transparent Watercolor given by his Children, Winslow and Elizabeth.

Judge Richard Martin Ash III selected 116 works by 113 artists for the 2010 exhibition. 35 states and the District of Columbia are represented in the exhibition.

A total of 401 artists entered 722 artworks. Entries were received from 43 states and the District of Columbia.

The Springfield Art Museum selected Kent Addison's On Target with Jan Van Eyck #2172 as a Museum Purchase Award (above). Four additional works were added to the Museum's Permanent Collections through the generosity of the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates and the Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society.
