  During a joint meeting with City Council, Jerry Fenstermaker, Chairman of the Police-Fire Pension Fund Citizens’ Task Force, urged the Council to move forward quickly to put a proposed sales-tax increase on the November ballot.

  The Police-Fire Pension Fund Citizens’ Task Force rescinded two alternatives approved last week regarding the controversial “return of contribution” provision in the benefit plan. The Task Force also voted to remove a recommendation regarding disability benefits.

  Chairman Jerry Fenstermaker reviewed the issues that contributed to the current underfunding. Public input included comments from: Dan Tobben, Brian Perdue, Vincent Jericho, Chris Donegan, Fred Ellison, Mike Scott, Shawn Martin, Steven Reed, Janice Ellison, Mike Evans, Linda Herd and Christa Hogan.

  The Police-Fire Pension Task Force voted on proposals from members Ken Homan and Lloyd Young that dealt with employee contributions to the fund and the disability process.

• July 22, 2009

  The Police-Fire Pension Board Citizens’ Task Force reviewed the previous night’s Town Hall, discussed plans for the next one July 30 and discussed numerous other topics in their July 22 meeting.

• July 21, 2009

  The Police-Fire Pension Fund Citizens' Task Force held the first of two town hall meetings to get public input about possible solutions to the Fund's $200 million shortfall.

  The Police Fire Pension Task Force voted on a series of recommendations they intend to send to City Council. A new issue was addressed – whether current Police & Fire employees could become part of the Lagers system. Town Hall meetings later in July were also covered.

  The Police-Fire Pension Citizen’s Task Force received new actuarial information Tuesday and continued their discussion of what tax rate they may consider proposing as part of their recommendations.

  The May 21st Task Force meeting included presentations by Andy Lear for the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, Tom Martz speaking on behalf of the Save Our Springfield group, Peggy Kubicek with a review of the pension plan (CERF) for Greene County employees and Danny Hyde on the Carpenter’s International Plan.

  The Pension Task Force received about 70 answers to questions from members Wednesday night, while also hearing an overview of the proposed FY10 annual budget.

• May 13, 2009

  Michael Zweiner, consulting actuary with the St. Louis firm of Milliman, with an overview of the actuarial role in the pension plan. Gino Reina, Vice President and Director of Research for Segal Advisors, the investment advisor for the pension plan, reviewed the performance of the Pension Fund’s investment portfolio.
