Landmarks Board
Historic Sites, Landmarks, and Districts
Springfield has a Landmarks Board, whose purpose is to help promote the creation and use of the Historic Sites, Historic Landmarks, and Historic Districts for the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public through preservation, protection, and regulation.
The Historic District Review Board and the Historic Sites Board merged to form the Landmarks Board with passage of the Zoning Ordinance on June 14, 1993.
Powers and duties of the Landmarks Board include surveying and identifying historically and architecturally significant properties, recommending plans and policies with regard to historic preservation, and recommending to City Council the adoption of ordinances designating Historic Sites, Landmarks, and Districts.
