Site Background

1500 W. Walnut Street and 411 S. Nettleton Avenue

A residence was located on the property from 1950 to 1987. From the late 1950s to present, various commercial properties have utilized the site. Currently, the properties are mostly used by Guffey Services, a heating and air conditioning repair service, and Springfield Door Control. The southern portion of the property is undeveloped, but contains idle cars and machinery. The northern and southern sections of the property are divided by a narrow tire path which leads to the southern undeveloped portion of the property. On the north side of the path, there are two buildings containing Guffey Services (1500 W. Walnut) and Springfield Door Control (411 S. Nettleton), and two smaller buildings resembling sheds or out buildings. Two tractor trailers without cabs on the site were locked and not accessible. Idle vehicles, machinery parts and metal scrap and debris are present at various locations on the property. No staining is present near the debris. One 10-gallon container, containing four gallons of used oil, is present on the west side of the Guffey Services building. One 55-gallon drum full of unknown material is also present.

Findings

The site inspection, interviews with the property owner and others, and search of historical records were completed. No recognized environmental concerns were identified for this property. Solid waste on the property should be disposed properly.
