PROCESS FOR HIRING FIREFIGHTERS
The Firefighter selection process takes place once
per year. The period when applications are accepted may vary slightly,
but we will usually open the posting in July and close it in September.
The announcement will be posted on this web site and on the City
of Springfield employment hotline.
The testing process consists of a written exam, physical
agility test, and an interview. Candidates must satisfactorily complete
each phase of the process to advance tot he next.
Beginning in 2008, the testing process is being condensed.
because of rising travel costs, the written exam and physical agility
portions of the process will be conducted the same week in October
over a two or three day period. Depending on circumstance, some
out-of-sate candidates may be offered the opportunity o interview
that same week. This will be subject to available interview slots.
After the entire process concludes, only applicants
who satisfactorily complete the interview process will be considered
eligible for hire. The list of eligible candidates remains in effect
until a new list is established at the completion of the next process
- typically the same time the following year.
