Since 1995, Springfield
voters have approved using the current level property tax money to fund several
major Capital Improvements projects with no increase in the property tax rate:
- new fire
stations,
- a
new grandstand and the exhibition hall or "E-plex" at the Ozark Empire
Fairgrounds,
- and
a number of stormwater problems.
- Storm
siren replacements
These
projects are all either underway or completed. On
February 6, 2001 voters approvde keeping the level property tax
to continue providing revenue for major Capital Improvement projects projects
with no increase in the property tax rate. These
projects include improving fire protection by buying additional land
and building, equipping and relocating one fire station, and City facility improvements,
which include: - Continuing
improvements to the stormwater system.
- Improvements
to City owned facilities such as roof replacement of Historic City Hall.
- Land
acquisition from willing sellers to implement recommendations from Vision 20/20
for Jordan Valley Park.
Proposal B Language on Ballot
Question: "Shall the City of Springfield be authorized
to continue the current level property tax, which is twenty-seven (27)
cents, for the purpose of improving fire protection including the buying
of land and building, equipping and relocating one fire station, city
facility improvements, buying property available to implement the Vision
20/20 Long Range Plan, and continuing improvements to the stormwater
system, by levying a property tax for municipal purposes not to exceed
twenty-seven (27) cents per one hundred dollars assessed valuation, excluding
the special levy for parks, public health and the art museum, provided
this levy shall end when the last payment for any bonds issued to fund
the above projects is made?"
Note: This will not result in an increase of the current levy for
debt or municipal purposes.
