City Weekly Events & City Beat
The week's events begin tonight with a Commercial Street Task Force meeting at a different time and location. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Staiton No. 5, at 2750 W. Kearney St.
Tuesday is Election Day in Springfield. Question 1 on the ballot is the referendum on a sales tax for the Police/Fire Pension fund. Polls will open at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. Greene County Clerk Richard Struckoff administers all elections in the county. Visit the County Clerk's Web site to find out more about polling locations and hours, or call the Clerk's office at 868-4060. All of the information the City has made available this issue can be found on our Elections page. Some of the more pertinent links include an informational brochure, the final report of the Police/Fire Pension Fund Citizens' Task Force, a presentation (via video) by Task Force co-chair Jerry Harmison explaining the proposal, and a Sept. 29 blog post clarifying some confusion over the ballot language.
Don't forget about our online forum for asking quesitons about the issue. Even if you don't have a question of your own, check out the forum. There have been a lot of great quesitons asked so far, and we're answering each one.
There's also a weekly Council lunch meeting at noon Tuesday. The topic is Community Priorities. Tim Rosenbury will discuss the findings of four recent reports about Springfield covering areas such as the business climate, social indicators and long-range planning.
On Thursday, the Council's Public Involvement Committee will discuss possible appointments to three boards, including Planning & Zoning and the Landmarks Board. And the P&Z Commission will meet Thursday evening at its regular time.
This week on City Beat: A Citizen's Tax Oversight committee picks up Council support, H1N1 gains momentum, and rain slows down but doesn't stop road construction work around the city.
