Scott Bailes was elected as a City Council member to represent Zone 4 in April 2009. He currently serves as a Member of the Plans and Policies Committee and the Public Involvement Committee.

Scott attended Southwest Missouri State University, where he played baseball. In January 1982, Scott was drafted by the Texas Ranger’s, however he chose to remain at SMS and played through the spring of that year. In June, 1982, he was drafted by the Pittsburg Pirates and signed with them on July 1.

In July, 1985, Scott began playing for the Cleveland Indians, and on April 9, 1986 made his Major League Baseball debut by pitching against the Baltimore Orioles.

After playing for the California Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays, Scott retired in 1995. However, in 1996, he signed on with the Texas Rangers, where he played until he permanently retired in 1998. He currently serves as a co-announcer on the Ozarks CW, for the Springfield Cardinals, the AA-affiliate for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Scott currently serves on the advisory committee for Champion Athletes of the Ozarks and serves on the board of the Springfield Soccer Club. Scott previously served as the Director of the Special Olympics from 1994 to 1995.

Scott is employed by Regional Ready Mix, a ready-mix concrete company that services commercial and residential projects in Southwest Missouri.

He is married to Joanne, and together they have three children.
