Gary Deaver and was elected as an at-large City Council member in April 2003, and re-elected to a four-year term in April 2005. He currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem, on the Council Plans & Policies Committee, and the Finance & Administration Committee.
Gary, a life-long resident of the City of Springfield, attended Southwest Missouri State University, 1969 – 1975. In 1971, he founded Sparky’s Hauling Service and served as the President of Sparky’s Waste Control, Inc., from 1975 to 1997.
Gary’s civic involvement with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce includes serving as a past member of the Board of Directors, past Chairman of Small Business Council, past Vice-Chairman for Public Affairs, past Director Nominating Committee Chair, present Environmental Committee member, present Governmental Relations Committee member, and a current Chamber member. He has also participated in the National Solid Waste Management Association, Springfield-Greene County Environmental Advisory Board, and City Utilities Citizen Advisory Board, Clariant LSM (Missouri) Inc., Citizens Advisory Board, Springfield Industrial Development Authority Board, the Southeast Springfield Neighborhood Association, and was a founding member of the Southern Hills Neighborhood Association. He served as chairman of the Community Partnership of the Ozarks Environmental Collaborative, a founding board member of Partners in Pollution Prevention and has served on numerous City and County Environmental/Solid Waste Taskforces during the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Additionally, Gary has served on the Board for the Regional Girls’ Shelter and was the fundraising chairman for the Shelter in 2002. He is currently a Springfield Southeast Rotary Club Member and has served as a Board Member, as well as the International Lane Director. Gary is a past member of the Downtown Springfield Association and Northside Betterment Association.
