These statistics show the 10-year growth from 1990-1999 of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) of Greene, Christian and Webster counties. From the web site of the University of Missouri Economic & Policy Analysis Research Center, they were tabulated and released in January, 2001.

Population
Grew 16.2% from 265,359 to 308,332

Personal Income
From 1990 - 1998, it grew 62.5% from $4.24 billion to $6.89 billion

State Income Tax
Increased 109%, paying $60.6 million

Gross Sales-tax
Receipts increased 158 percent. 1990 sales-tax collection was $31.39 million. In 1999 the figure was $80.99 million, collected on behalf of different sales-tax levies in the counties for various governmental subdivision, school and fire districts.

Total Assessed Valuation of Real and Personal Property
The value upon which property tax rates are applied increased 80% to $1.93 billion in 1999. Due in part to building and development, permits for single-family residences in larger Springfield increased 87 % in the period.

Transfer Payments
Money the federal and state government pays out in Social Security, food stamps, workers' compensation benefits, veterans' payments and the like increased 44.4 % from 1990-1998. Total to individuals for 1998 was $813 million.

Vehicle Registrations
Greene County increased 24 %. In 1999, 215,269 cars and trucks were registered in Greene County - three trucks for every seven automobiles.
