Top Ten Services Provided by the Division

1. Plan Review: Storm water plan review for compliance with flood control and water quality requirements on all new developments.

2. Service Requests: Responding to service requests for flooding/drainage issues and investigating pollution reports. To report, please call (417) 864-1901 or submit a service request online.

3. Permit Compliance: Conducting a variety of activities and programs to ensure the City is in compliance with its federally-mandated storm water permit, including public education, water quality monitoring of streams and runoff, pollution investigations, industry inspections, and others.

4. Capital Improvement Projects: Developing and designing/managing capital improvement projects to reduce flood hazards and enhance water quality.

5. Erosion and Sediment Control: Implementing a comprehensive program for erosion and sediment control and pollution prevention on construction sites including plan review, inspections and enforcement.

6. Flood Hazard Areas: Remapping of FEMA floodplain areas is underway as part of a Cooperative Technical Partner agreement with FEMA. Sinkhole flood hazard areas have also been mapped.

7. Storm Water Studies: Funding/conducting a variety of studies on storm water/water quality topics.

8. Public Education & Involvement: Providing storm water public education and public involvement opportunities through various activities, programs, and partnerships with local watershed groups and agencies.

9. Storm Water System Mapping: GIS mapping of the city-wide storm water drainage system, including storm drains, pipes, channels, detention basins and other features.

10. Rainfall and Runoff Monitoring: Providing real-time rainfall data through a city-wide network of 20 rain gauges as well as partial funding for USGS stream gauges in Springfield.
