Process for Hiring Firefighters
The Firefighter selection process typically takes place once per year. The announcement will be posted on this web site and on the City of Springfield employment hotline.
The testing process consists of a written exam, physical agility test, and an interview. Candidates must satisfactorily complete each phase of the process to advance to the next.
Depending on circumstance, some out-of-state candidates may be offered the opportunity to interview immediately following successful completion of the physical agility test. This option will be subject to available interview slots.
After the entire process concludes, only those applicants who satisfactorily complete the interview process will be considered eligible for hire. The list of eligible candidates remains in effect until a new list is established at the completion of the next process - typically the same time the following year.
