Women, Infants, and Children
Our Healthy Start
Pregnancy is the start of a new chapter in your family's life. A good start begins with good choices, and we hope you'll choose Our Healthy Start at Jordan Valley Community Health Center.
With Our Healthy Start, you have the option to receive your prenatal care in a group. Our Healthy Start prenatal care provides both your regular check-ups and all the self-care and education you need for a healthy pregnancy and child.
We offer not only prenatal care at Our Healthy Start, but we also care for your children after delivery, and your other women's health needs like annual exams and planning for your family.
Having a Baby?
Pregnancy is an exciting time, and all of us at Our Healthy Start know you have lots of questions and concerns about your health, the birth of your baby, and your baby's care after delivery. We provide you with all the tools and information you need to make sure you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Certified Nurse Midwife
When you enroll in Our Healthy Start, you will spend lots of one-on-one time with Carla Boone, CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife). Carla is a specially trained advanced practice nurse who has had extensive training in the care and education of women before, during, and after pregnancy. Your CNM will provide prenatal care, labor, and delivery support and even do your baby's first check-ups. After you have delivered your baby, you may still see your CNM for annual exams and other health concerns.
Labor and Delivery
Your CNM will help you prepare for your hospital birth at St. John's Hospital or Cox South Hospital in Springfield. If you choose to have your baby at St. John's, you will be cared for by our obstetrician partners. If you choose to have your baby at Cox, you will be cared for by supervised Family Practice Residents.
Community Partners
Our Healthy Start also gives you access to our partners' services:
- St. John's Regional Health Center - Obstetricians from St. John's, Dr. David Redfern and Dr. Meera Scarrow, will collaborate with your CNM to meet all your medical needs. Drs. Redfern and Scarrow will also be on hand to provide assistance with problem pregnancies or other women’s health issues.
- Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) - WIC provides access to nutritious foods for you and your children, along with nutrition education to make sure you and your baby have the best start possible. WIC also offers breastfeeding support, health screenings, and immunizations.
- Our Healthy Start will also engage others in the community to bring you care. Organizations like the Doula Foundation and the March of Dimes will work with Jordan Valley to meet your needs.
