Investigate animal bites
Reports of animal bites come to the Greene County Environmental staff
from several sources, including the Greene County Sheriff's Office, medical facilities and the general public.
Staff verify the animal bite and quarantine the animal for 10 days from the date of the bite. Ideally, animals are held at a licensed veterinary facility
or at the Springfield Animal Shelter.
During the quarantine, staff observe the animal for symptoms of illness. After 10 days, if the animal is healthy, it can be reunited with its owner. Owners are
required to pay appropriate fees for boarding or vaccination.
Animal bite reports are sent to the Greene County Planning and Zoning Commission.
