Animal Control

The goal of the Animal Control program is to reunite dogs and cats with their owners, facilitate adoptions by approved rescue partners and protect residents from animals running at large. We facilitated 1,873 rescues from the Animal Shelter this year (through Nov 2009).

If you have lost an animal, please view the animals at the links below or visit the Animal Shelter in person during hours of operation to view the animals being held there. We cannot go by descriptions over the phone to help you decide if your animal is being held. Photos may not reflect all animals being held at the shelter at the time you view them. If you do not see an animal you believe may be at the shelter, please visit the Animal Shelter in person to view all animals held there.

We do not facilitate adoptions by inviduals at the shelter, however Latichia Duffy from Half-Way Home (one of our qualified animal rescue groups) will pull animals by request for individuals.  Her number is (417)693-7555 or email:  crsdke@aim.com.

The shelter receives owner-turn-ins during public hours and does not accept pets from outside Springfield city limits, except for dogs from the Urban Animal Control Area.

Pet AdoptionWe have partnered with Pefinder.com to display animals currently housed and the Animal Shelter and animals elgible for adoptions by qualified animal resuce groups. Click on the links below to view these animals.
