Program Overview . . .
Building Blocks is a Nurse-Family Partnership program that works with first-time parents to help them develop effective parenting skills and build resilient families. The program is funded through Springfield Public Schools' Safe Schools Healthy Students Initiative.

The Building Blocks program has three fundamental goals:
  • Helping women improve the outcomes of pregnancy by helping them improve their health behaviors - such as improving their diet; reducing their use of cigarettes, alcohol and illegal drugs; and identifying emerging obstetrical problems and working with their health care provider to treat those problems before they become more serious.
  • Helping mothers improve their child's health and development by helping them provide more responsible and competent care for their children.
  • Helping mothers become economically self-sufficient by helping them develop a vision for their own future, plan future pregnancies, continue their education and find jobs.
Eligibility . . .

The program serves first-time mothers of any age. Nurses begin working with women before their 28th week of pregnancy and continue through their child's first two years of life.

Mothers must reside within the Springfield R-12 School District and meet economic eligibility requirements.

My nurse Teresa is great. I do recommend this program to anyone who wants help with their newborns or don't know anything about how to take care of their baby or have lots of questions about things.

I know that she has helped me alot and everything that we have talked about I enjoy learning new things and each time we talk I feel a sense of comfort and more prepared for baby.
