  • In 2006 nursing staff administered 20,823 vaccinations to 13,909 adults and children.
  • Staff vaccinated 6,343 children under age 18.
  • Influenza vaccinations were provided to more than 3,200 adults, including child care providers. Influenza vaccines were provided to 959 children between the ages of 6 months and 18 years.
  • Staff also administered international travel immunizations to more than 1,124 people.

Program Overview . . .
The Westside Public Health Center provides a number of vaccinations to children, adults and travelers abroad. Most childhood vaccinations are provided at no cost. Fees will be incurred for adult immunizations.

Children . . .
The center provides vaccinations to children from birth through age 18. The following vaccinations are available for children:
  • DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis).
  • Chickenpox.
  • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella).
  • Hepatitis A and B.
  • Polio.
  • Haemophilus B influenza.
  • Pneumococcal conjugate - protects against serious blood, lung and brain infection. Administered at 2mos, 4mos, 6mos and 12-15 mos.
  • Rotavirus - prevents rotavirus infection, a serious diarrheal disease. Vaccine administered at 2mos, 4mos and 6mos.
  • Influenza - protects against a serious lung disease. Vaccine administered as young as 6 months of age.
  • Meningococcal conjugate - prevents a serious illness caused by a bacteria. Vaccine administered to adolescents and young adults beginning at age 11.
  • Human Papillomavirus - prevents cervical cancer and genital warts. Administered to females 9-26 years old.

Seasonal flu shots will be offered to high risk adults at five clinics to be held during November. Seasonal flu shots are available to children by calling the Westside Public Health Center.

Travel . . .
Individuals traveling to countries where yellow fever and typhoid are health concerns are required to be immunized. For a small fee, the staff at the Westside Public Health Center will provide appropriate vaccinations to individuals traveling outside of the United States.

Office Hours . . .
Immunizations are given at the health department's Westside Public Health Center located at 660 South Scenic. The center is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Walk-in clinics are held:
Tuesday 7:30 am - 10:00 am

Appointments are available:
Monday 1:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Tuesday and Thursday 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 am - 11:15 am
