Program Overview . . .
Tuberculosis is a communicable disease caused by bacteria. It is spread from person to person by respiratory droplets.
Our staff works to treat clients with tuberculosis in order to prevent its spread.
Clinic . . .
Our in-house clinic provides testing and treatment of tuberculosis at no cost to the client. Clients are seen by appointment by calling (417) 864-1697.
Case Management . . .
Case managers provide one-on-one attention to clients who test positive for tuberculosis. Case managers observe the client as they take tuberculosis medication in order to assure the medication is properly taken, to assess the patient's physical response to the medication and to prevent the possibility of the patient developing drug resistant tuberculosis.
Case managers follow clients for the entire six to twelve month period while they are being treated for tuberculosis disease or infection.
Staff also provide contact investigations in the community to locate individuals who may have been exposed to tuberculosis and control or prevent the spread of the disease.
