Tuberculosis Services

Program Overview . . .
Tuberculosis is a communicable disease caused by bacteria. It is spread from person to person by respiratory droplets.

Our staff works to treat clients with tuberculosis in order to prevent the disease from spreading.

Clinic . . .
Our in-house tuberculosis clinic provides testing and treatment of tuberculosis.

Eligibility . . .
Tuberculosis case management services are available at no cost to the following individuals:
  • Individuals exposed to a known case of tuberculosis.
  • Individuals showing symptoms of tuberculosis disease.
  • Individuals with tuberculosis disease or latent tuberculosis infection.
Case Management . . .
Nurse case managers provide one-on-one attention to clients with latent tuberculosis infection or tuberculosis disease. Clients meet with a nurse case manager on a routine basis during the treatment period to assess the patient's physical response to the medication and to ensure the medication is taken properly. The treatment period may vary depending upon the client's individual needs and his response to treatment. Clients with a primary healthcare provider or specialist may have their care coordinated through the nurse case manager and their personal physician.

Staff also provides contact investigation and follow up to individuals who may have been exposed to someone with tuberculosis to prevent spread of the disease.

Skin Testing . . .
Tuberculosis skin testing is available by appointment. The skin test must be read within 48 to 72 hours after being administered and requires two visits to the clinic within the 72 hour period. This service is available for a fee of $18.00.
