Teresa Allen's idea of being in balance is using her free time on the weekends to get out of the house and spend time with her husband of 15 years, Daren. They like to go shopping and go to the lake. Any time spent together is time well spent.
When it comes to shopping, they really enjoy going on the hunt for antiques. And contrary to the stereotype, it was Daren who got Teresa interested in it.
"I never used to go antique shopping until I met him," says Allen, a financial analyst with the City's Finance Department. "He's always really liked to go to flea markets and antique stores."
Part of the fun is getting out of town.
"We like to go on road trips, and we have found some interesting places along the way," she recounts. "It's always fascinating. We have little places we won't go to for years, and then we'll just run by them one day."
The hunt itself is a big part of the allure for Teresa and Daren. It's not just the piece, but the price.
"I'm a bargain hunter," Allen explains. "And I don't like to use eBay because that just seems fake. I like to hunt something down for myself."
The pair also loves to spend time at Table Rock Lake. They have a modest house boat there, and it's a great place to get away, Teresa says. Even if it's just reading books, cooking dinner, talking to "neighbors" at the dock, or watching the other boaters – it's simply relaxing and rejuvenating.
