NOTICE OF CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT PROGRAM
911 TELECOMMUNICATOR
Duties
To receive incident reports, including emergency calls through 911, and simultaneously enter information into the computer. To operate public safety dispatching equipment for multiple jurisdictions and agencies.
Requires
One year of experience in emergency communications/dispatch work; or 2 years of experience in a multi-task, high public contact work environment; or possession of 60 semester hours from an accredited college/university; or any combination of education and experience that would provide the incumbent with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Must accurately type at a rate of approximately 40 WPM and successfully complete a background investigation. Must be able to work any assigned hours/shifts with varying days off. Subject to emergency call-in. Must not possess any felony convictions. Must pass pre-employment hearing exam.

Salary
The starting base pay for this position is $13.68 per hour. Shift differential is paid per hour for 2nd ($.50 hr.) and 3rd ($1.00 hr.) shift assignments and is in addition to base pay. The entire salary range for the 911 Telecommunicator position is $13.68 - $19.18 hourly.
SCHEDULE
Once training is completed, incumbents will be assigned to 2nd (3:00 pm – 11:00 pm) and/or 3rd (11:00 pm – 7:00 am) shifts. During the training period, approximately one year, incumbents will rotate on all shifts. Weekends and holidays required.

TESTING INFORMATION
It is highly encouraged that individuals prepare for the typing exam. Individuals will need to be able to type 40 WPM at a 94% accuracy rate. Individuals will also take a job-related data entry exam and must achieve a score of 4600 KPH. After completing the typing and data entry exams, candidates will take a 911 job simulation exercise. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: During the training period, incumbents will not be approved for outside employment or to go to school.
In accordance with the City Merit Rules, a Continuous Recruitment Program has been declared for the 911 Telecommunicator job classification starting September 17, 2010. Based on the notice of Continuous Recruitment, applications received as a result of this posting will be considered continuously until the Director of Human Resources terminates this Continuous Recruitment Program. Eligible candidates are those who successfully pass the testing and selection process. The names of eligible candidates shall be added to and removed from the Eligible List on a continuous basis and will be submitted to the Emergency Communications Department based on rank irrespective of dates on which the testing and selection process occurred. Once a candidate attains eligible status, he/she may remain on the Eligible List for no longer than eighteen months from the date the candidate attained eligibility status. If a candidate wants to be eligible after his/her eligibility has expired, he/she must retake the testing and interview process in order to maintain eligibility as long as the Continuous Recruitment Program has not been terminated.

Springfield-Greene County Emergency Communications – 911 Telecommunicator Position
The testing and selection procedure includes the following elements: a typing test, written exam, an oral interview, background investigation, pre-employment drug testing, and a post offer hearing exam Applicants must pass every phase of the testing and selection process in order to be considered eligible for appointment.

*This is a tentative schedule of the recruitment process and exact dates are subject to change.
The typing test and written exam will be given together. Candidates will take the typing test first. After successful completion of the typing test, candidates will proceed to the written exam. Total testing time will be approximately 3 hours. The interview is tentatively scheduled to last approximately 30 minutes. Interview times will be established upon successful completion of the written exam by the candidate.
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will be contacted by the Human Resources Department to schedule an appointment for the different phases of the selection process.
In accordance with Merit Rule 5.2, any applicant taking an entrance exam (either a written test and/or oral interview), who fails to make a passing grade, may retake the test at the next regularly scheduled time. Should the applicant fail to make a passing grade on the second attempt, he/she will not be allowed to retake the test for the position until one year from the date of the second test. Failure to make a qualifying grade on the entrance exam on the third attempt will disqualify the candidate from any further consideration of the applicant for the specified position.
