EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III

-Current vacancy
at the Springfield Landfill-

Shifts will vary-candidate must be available M-F, 6:30-4:30 & Sat, 6:00-3:30; Subject to overtime and emergency call-in

 

DUTIES

Operates heavy weight equipment and vehicles in the construction, repair, and maintenance of City facilities.   

Requires

A minimum of 24 months experience in the operation of heavy dozers, self-propelled scrapers with twin engines or equivalent graded equipment plus individual must pass appropriate equipment operation skills test.  Preference will be given to those candidates with scraper and/or dozer experience.

Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that would enable the driver to operate at minimum a Class “B” vehicle with airbrakes.  In order to qualify for some assignments, candidates must possess endorsements such as tanker and/or a Class “A” license.  Subject to weekends, a variety of shifts, & emergency call-in; some assignments require occasional to regular overtime.

Salary

$13.98 - $20.04 Hourly is complete Salary Range*.
*Includes additional 5% landfill pay.
(Starting salary is typically at the beginning of the range depending on individual qualifications and budget authorization.)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The testing process for the position of Equipment Operator III is outlined below:

PHASE ISkills Test - This portion of the testing will require the candidate to demonstrate his/her skills in the operation of heavy weight equipment such as heavy dozers and self-propelled scrapers with twin engines.  Candidates must receive a score of 70 points out of 100 in order to pass the skills test and be eligible to proceed in the process.

PHASE II:  Candidate Interview  - This portion of the process will include an interview with Landfill supervisor and Human Resources.  The interview will focus on the candidates total qualifications with regard to knowledge, experience, skills and abilities required for the job.  Candidates must receive 71 points out of 100 in order to pass the interview and be eligible for the position.     

The candidate’s FINAL SCORE for the Eligibility List will be based on the following:
                               
Skills Test: 50%
Candidate Interview: 50%

Please note the planned schedule for Equipment Operator III Testing: 

SKILLS TEST:  February 3-10, 2012

  • Individual times will be scheduled for qualified candidates after the closing date.
  • Candidates will perform skills testing on a scraper and dozer.
  • Skills Testing will be held at the Springfield Landfill. 
  • Interviews will be scheduled for the week of February 7, 2012.  If the candidate passes the skills test, they will be scheduled for an interview.
