Thank you for your interest in employment with the Springfield Fire Department. The City is no longer accepting applications for the position of Firefighter, but we anticipate posting a vacancy announcement for Firefighter in 2015. Performs firefighting, fire prevention, emergency medical services and rescue work; maintains and cleans Fire Department buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Requires - Minimum Qualifications
- Age 18 or older;
- High School graduation or G.E.D.;
- No felony convictions;
- No serious misdemeanor convictions for the past five years;
- Vision correctable to 20/30;and
- Excellent physical condition
Candidates must provide supporting documentation that applicant possesses at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
- EMT-B (license) OR
- Firefighter I & II (certificate) OR
- 36 accredited college hours (transcript) OR
- 2 years active duty military service with honorable discharge (DD214).

Candidates must attach a copy of their EMT-B license, Firefighter I & II certifications, college transcript or Military Form DD214 with application. Application packet must be complete. $16.01 Starting Hourly Wage during the 40-hour per week training period.
$11.44 Hourly Wage once assigned to the 24-hour work schedule. (The complete salary range for Firefighter is $11.44 - $17.51.)
Written Exam will be conducted on April 15th and 16th, 2014 and the Physical Agility Exam will be conducted April 17th, 2014.

Based on the number and quality of applicants, applications may be reviewed for qualifications beyond the minimums stated herein.
