City Clerk: Brenda M. Cirtin

Brenda M. Cirtin, MMC/MPCC, was appointed as the City Clerk for the City of Springfield in 1993. As the City Clerk, Cirtin provides support to the Mayor and City Council and records the official minutes of the City Council meetings and several boards, commissions and committees. She supervises office and clerical support functions, coordinates municipal elections with the County Clerk and serves as repository for all official City records.

Cirtin served as the City Clerk for Jefferson City Missouri, from March 1986 until December 1991. During her tenure in Jefferson City, Cirtin acquired the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk. The CMC designation is a combination of education and experience, granted through the International Institute for Municipal Clerks (IIMC). In 2004, Cirtin was awarded the designation of Missouri Professional City Clerk through the Missouri City Clerk and Finance Officer’s Association. In December 2005, she was awarded the designation of Master Municipal Clerk through the IIMC. In May 2007, she was inducted into the Athenian Leadership Society as a Charter member. In May 2009, she received the Quill Award, which is given to IIMC members who have made significant and exemplary contributions to their community, state, peers, and IIMC. In May 2010, she was elected as Vice President of IIMC and served as its President from May 2012 to May 2013.

Cirtin holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Evangel University. In addition, Cirtin holds professional memberships in the IIMC, the Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association (MoCCFOA), and the Southwest Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association (SWMOCCFOA). Cirtin is a former member of the Board of IIMC, representing Region VII, which consists of Illinois, Kansas, and Missouri.  Cirtin served as President (1999-2000) for Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association having also served as Secretary and President Elect. In 2012, Cirtin was selected as Outstanding City Clerk by the MoCCFOA.  Cirtin is also active in the Missouri Municipal League.           
Cirtin actively participates in the United Way campaign for the City of Springfield, is involved in the annual Day of Caring, is a former member of the Board for the Victim’s Center, having served on its Executive Committee for two years and has served as an advisor for Leadership Springfield and Leadership Springfield Academy.

She is married to Robert Cirtin and together they have two daughters and two absolutely perfect grandsons!
