Interim Co-Director of Public Works: Jonathan Gano
As Interim Co-Director of Public Works, Jonathan Gano oversees the care, maintenance and construction of over $1.5 billion in publicly-owned infrastructure, including:
- over 2000 miles of city streets
- almost 600 miles of sidewalks
- over 1 million square feet of facilities
- a fleet of more than 800 vehicles
- a cemetery
- an $18 million operating budget
Gano has been with Public Works for ten years. He became Interim Co-Director in 2014 after serving as the Assistant Director and working in the Street Maintenance Division, including service as the Superintendent of Streets.
In addition to numerous local recognitions, Gano was selected from 29,000 American Public Works Association members as Young Leader of the Year for 2010.
Gano is vice president of the board of directors for the Springfield Regional Arts Council. He also serves on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity of Springfield. He is a past board member of the Region D Homeland Security Oversight Committee, the US Green Building Council's committee for the development of LEED for Neighborhood Development, and a graduate of Leadership Springfield Class XXIII.
He holds a degree from the United States Military Academy in civil engineering and a master's degree in engineering management from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Missouri.
Prior to working for the City, Gano served as an engineer officer in the United States Army for eight years, where his duties took him to ten different states and nine different countries. He is credited with pioneering the introduction of explosive and non-explosive breaching in the urban environment into combat engineer training.Close Window
