For Immediate Release: Fatality Traffic Crash

The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating a Fatality Traffic Crash that occurred on Tuesday, 9-8-09. The crash happened at about 9:19 a.m. at the intersection of Mt. Vernon St. and the West Bypass.

Preliminary investigation shows that a green four-door car was traveling eastbound on Mt. Vernon, entered the intersection with the West Bypass, and was struck by a southbound black SUV. The driver of the green car, 80-year-old Clifton Buttram of Springfield, was killed in the crash. His next of kin have been notified.

The investigation is still ongoing.
