When You See Red Lights Behind You...

One of the problems our officers encounter out on the streets is the confused reaction of drivers when they see our flashing red lights in their rearview mirrors. This can happen when the officer is on an emergency run or when the officer is trying to pull the driver over for a traffic violation. The proper procedure to follow when you see the officer's flashing lights in your mirror is to slow down and pull to the right side of the roadway. Do not just stop in the middle of the road or pull to the left. The officer will either pull behind you or continue on around. Remain stationary until the officer either contacts you or drives away.

Officers on emergency runs need the roadway clear to get to the emergency as quickly and safely as possible. Please help make that trip safer for everyone.
