The Property Unit is open to the public Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If the Property Room sends you a letter, an employee notifies you by phone, or you have appeared in court and the court has ordered the property be released to you, you will need to come to the front desk at Headquarters (address shown above) during the public hours listed for the Property Room. You will need to bring the following information:

  • Case number
  • Letter that was sent to you from the Department or the name of the person that contacted you by phone
  • Picture identification card with signature (driver's license, state-issued ID, U.S. military ID, passport)

The Springfield Police Department under the provision of General Ordinance 3422, Chapter 13, Article II, Springfield City Code, as amended in Subsection J, "Disposition of property held by the Police Department", will be auctioning various items on the Web site hosted by The Property Bureau. Springfield property will be identified by Item #0187. In addition, some items will be converted to department use, donated or destroyed per the above Ordinance. Examples of items being sold, converted, donated and/or destroyed are: Automotive Accessories, Bicycles, Clothing and accessories, Collectibles and Memorabilia, Computers, Electronics, Home and Garden Items, Jewelry, Music and Movies, Photography, Sports and Recreation, Tools, Toys and Games, and Miscellaneous. Persons desiring to file a claim for property on the Web site should follow the procedures set up at that location or contact the Springfield Property Unit. Proof of ownership and/or loss is required. (Proof would include a police report documenting the theft or loss of the item, a receipt showing the description of the item at the time of purchase, anything with a description and serial number with the owner's name, etc.) City Ordinance 3190 prohibits salaried officers and employees of the City of Springfield, their spouses and minor children from bidding directly or indirectly or purchasing property under the direction or control of the City.
