28 Standing Boards & Committees
The City of Springfield seeks volunteers for 28 standing boards and commissions covering a range of topics and areas of expertise. Read more or apply online in the Boards section.
Adopt-a-Street
The City’s Traffic Engineering Department depends on volunteer groups to assist in keeping the city’s roadways cleared of litter. The Adopt-A-Street Program recognizes groups that adopt at least a half-mile of arterial and collector streets for clean-up at least three times a year.
Art Museum
Volunteers fill a number of roles at the Art Museum including docents to lead tours to the “Friends” group that supports exhibitions and programs.
Parks Department
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board uses volunteers in a variety of roles ranging from accessibility programs to the Dickerson Park Zoo. Applications are ongoing.
Adopt-a-Stream
The City’s Stormwater Engineering Division is currently looking for a volunteer group for its Adopt-a-Stream program. The volunteers are asked to perform periodic cleanups and report any unusual activity that could indicate a pollution discharge. Several stream sections are currently available for adoption.

Community Heroes
The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is seeking “Community Heroes” - volunteers who serve a variety of roles such as the “Fight the Flu” campaign, clerical support, health education and more. Applications are ongoing.
