Fatality bike accident investigation

At 6:45 p.m. Sunday, November 17, Springfield Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Kimbrough Avenue and Bear Boulevard.

Zachary S. Gibson, 23 years of age from Springfield, was traveling west on a bicycle crossing Kimbrough. According to witnesses, a white sedan traveling south on Kimbrough struck Gibson and left the scene. Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

An anonymous tip received through Crime Stoppers led to the recovery of the suspect vehicle in the 600 block of West Edgewood Monday morning. The investigation is ongoing.
