Traffic signal at College and Forest to be removed

After careful analysis following the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) practices, it has been determined that the signal at the intersection of College Street at Forest Avenue is no longer warranted.

On Monday, Dec. 9, the City of Springfield will begin the process of removing the traffic signal on by flashing the signal heads yellow to College and red to Forest. Following standard practice for traffic signal removal, the signal heads will remain in flash mode until Jan. 24, 2014. The signal heads will then be covered until March 7, 2014, at which time a final decision regarding removal will be made.

Unless unforeseen concerns for operation of this signal are identified, the signal will be removed completely the week of March 10, 2014.
