For Immediate Release

Resolution may be added to Monday's City Council meeting

City Council is expected to add and vote on a resolution Monday night that directs staff to not accept or process any development applications that involve group homes for persons on the sexual offender registry, probation, or parole or that involve community correction facilities. This direction from City Council will be in effect for 180 days.

Council wishes to further examine the City's Zoning Ordinance to determine if changes are needed. The resolution calls for the matter to be referred to the City Council Plans and Policies Committee. Should the committee decide to pursuechanges, the matter would go to the Planning and Zoning Commission, before seeking final City Council approval.

The City has received numerous zoning complaints about a house located at 1809 E. East Crestview. Staff has met with the property owner and/or leaseholder about their intentions of using the property as a group home under the current City zoning ordinance. The City's Building and Development Services department, which is charged with zoning enforcement, is currently consulting with the City's legal department on the issue.
