Person of interested detained in afternoon bomb scare

One person has been detained in an afternoon bomb scare on Springfield's south side. Around 2 p.m. this afternoon, the Springfield Fire Department Bomb Squad was called to the 4400 block of S. Reed for a potential explosive device discovered by the occupants of the home. A suspicious device was located and removed from the home. It was rendered safe outside the home. A person of interest was identified and was subsequently arrested in Springfield. Charges have not yet been filed. The investigation is ongoing. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
