City Utilities receives state parks award at today's board meeting
City Utilities of Springfield is being honored today for many years of partnership with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
The Board of Public Utilities will receive the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association's prestigious Citation Award today at the board's regular meeting, 3 p.m. at City Utilities' C. Frank Knox Board Room 301 E. Central. The award was presented to City Utilities in February at the MPRA annual conference at Lake of the Ozarks.
Parks Director Bob Belote nominated City Utilities for the award, noting long-term agreements for development of Lake Springfield Park, Valley Water Mill Park, Dan Kinney Park and several Ozark Greenways trails on City Utilities property.
"This is the highest award our state association gives to a partnering agency, and we're very happy to see City Utilities honored for all it has done for the community in its support for recreation and outdoor efforts," said Belote. "City Utilities' community-minded approach has enabled Springfield park patrons and visitors alike to realize many outdoor recreation activities and amenities, including fishing, boating, trail hiking, bird watching, pavilion use, family gatherings and outdoor interpretation."
Belote also noted City Utilities' management of Springfield water sources Fellows Lake and McDaniel Lakes as Springfield water sources as recreational areas.
