Aquathon Series and 11th Annual Kid'Athlon events offer triathlon-style races
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board hosts two triathlon-style events in the coming weeks.
The Aquathon Series features weekly kids’ and adults’ swim-run races Tuesday evenings throughout July at 7 p.m. (6-6:45 check-in) at Doling Indoor Aquatics Center, 301 E. Talmage (July 1 and 8,) and Meador Pool, 2500 S. Fremont (July 15 and 22.) The course includes 1-mile run and a 150-meter swim at Doling, a 300-meter swim at Meador. Participants earn points each week, based on age group placement. The top three participants in each age group are recognized following the event. Anyone age 5 to adult may participate.

The 11th Annual Kid’Athlon is a triathlon for kids ages 5 to 12, with age-appropriate swimming, biking and running events held Saturday, Aug. 2, 8 a.m. (6:30-7:30 check-in) at Meador Park, 2500 S. Fremont. The events include a 50-meter swim, .5 to 1.1-mile run and a .5 to 1-mile bike ride, depending upon the age group. Bikes and helmets are required for the race.
Pre-registration is required for the Kid’Athlon; no race day registrations accepted. Early registration, now through Friday, July 18, is $25 per child, $15 per additional child from the same household. Late registration is July 19-31, at $35 per child, $25 per additional child from the same household. Register at Chesterfield Family Center, Dan Kinney Family Center or Doling Family Center. Mandatory Kid’athlon packet pickup is Friday, Aug. 1, at Dan Kinney Family Center, 2701 S. Blackman Road, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
