Red Wagon Kids Announcement Feb. 18

The Mayor’s Commission for Children will hold a news conference to announce the Red Wagon Kids Plan at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18, at City Council Chambers in Historic City Hall. The plan represents efforts from several hundred citizens who studied local issues, gave feedback and/or formulated recommendations that, when implemented, will help ensure our youngest children have the best opportunity to succeed in school and in life.

Speakers will include Mayor Tom Carlson; Annie Busch, MCC Chair; Brian Fogle, Co-Chair of the Red Wagon Planning Groups; and Gloria Galanes, MCC Vice-Chair. Speakers and MCC Marketing Committee members will be available for media interviews after the event.

The plan targets six industry sectors (business, faith, health, education, services and policy) and is anchored in the “5 Promises” promoted by the national organization America’s Promise Alliance, which named Springfield one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People for the last three years. Becoming a community of “promise” for our children ensures every child has caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, an effective education and opportunities to help others.
