Phone Scam Alert

Springfield Police have received three complaints in which calls have been made to local residents from a person allegedly from Canada. The caller tells the victim that they are a relative who is in financial or legal trouble. The caller may also pass themselves off as a Canadian official. The victim is asked to wire money to a location in Canada. The reporting parties have discovered that they were victims of a phone scam. It appears at this point that senior citizens are being targeted.

Springfield Police want to remind everyone to be wary of any phone call that asks for money to be sent or wired. Any request of that nature should be thoroughly investigated before any funds are sent. If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, please make a report with your respective law enforcement agency.
