For Immediate Release

Jefferson at Olive Closed for Repairs

The intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Olive Street in downtown Springfield has been closed for repairs. A water main break on Tuesday caused structural damage below the surface of the street.

City Utilities has turned off the water main and will begin repairs on the main shortly. CU hopes to make the repairs without shutting off water to any of its customers. The City of Springfield Public Works Department will then fully assess the structural damage so it can begin repairing the street below and at surface level. More information about the extent of repairs and how long the intersection will be closed will be available on Wednesday.

All lanes of Jefferson Avenue, which is a southbound one-way street, and both directions of Olive Street are currently closed. Motorists are advised to avoid this intersection and use alternate routes in the area.
