For Immediate Release
Special Council Meeting Now Rescheduled
The City Council will hold a special meeting at noon, Wednesday, April 29, 2009, to hear presentations from applicants for the Zone 3 Council seat.
The meeting will take place in Council Chambers in Historic City Hall. The Wednesday meeting replaces the time originally scheduled on Tuesday.
Mayor Jim O’Neal intends to ask the Council to vote on an applicant to fill the open seat after the presentations.
The meeting will be shown live on the City Web site at: tv23.springfieldmo.gov. It also will air live on Mediacom Channel 23.
The deadline for applications for the Zone 3 seat is 5 p.m., Friday, April 24. Applicants must apply in person at the City Clerk’s Office during normal business hours in order to sign an affidavit attesting to their qualifications.
Qualified applicants must be registered voters, have two years of residency in the city of Springfield and one year of residency in Zone 3.
The City Council vacancy was created by the resignation of 10-year Councilman Ralph Manley at the end of Monday night’s regular Council meeting.
The new Councilmember will serve Mr. Manley’s unexpired term, which concludes with the General Municipal Election of April 2011. The new Councilmember would be eligible to run for election to a four-year term in 2011.
Citizens with questions about the application process can contact City Clerk Brenda Cirtin at 864-1650 or email@example.com.
