Open House to Discuss National, Grand, Kimbrough Improvements

The City of Springfield will host a Public Involvement Open House meeting from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2009, to review conceptual plans for possible improvements on National Avenue, Kimbrough Avenue and Grand Street in the area adjacent to the Missouri State University campus.

The possible improvements would be on National Avenue from Grand Street to Cherry Street; Kimbrough Avenue from Grand Street to Chestnut Expressway; and on Grand Street, from a point west of National Avenue to Holland Street. The projects being considered for future implementation are the result of a Traffic, Parking and Pedestrian Circulation Study conducted in 2007-08 in the Missouri State University campus area. The study was jointly-funded by the City and MSU. Improvements already under construction at National Avenue and Grand Street will also be reviewed.

The Open House will be held at Fire Station No. 1, at 720 E. Grand St., on the southeast corner of Holland and Grand. The public is invited to come and go any time between 4 and 6:30 pm. No formal presentations are planned, however City and MSU staff will be present to discuss features of the possible projects under consideration.

The primary purpose of the meeting is to meet with the public to discuss possible projects on streets adjacent to the MSU campus to improve circulation and safety for traffic, pedestrians and bicycles. The goal is to inform property owners, businesses and the general public about street projects which are either committed or in the planning stages in the MSU area. The City is committed to working with area property owners for improved traffic flow and safety.

A copy of conceptual plans and other detailed information prepared by the City of Springfield will be on display. Written statements and oral comments will be received at the open house. If you are unable to attend, this information will also be available for public inspection at the City of Springfield, Busch Municipal Building, Traffic Engineering Division, 840 Boonville Ave., Springfield, MO 65802. The City will continue to receive comments in person or in writing to the address above with attention to Earl Newman, Assistant Director of Public Works. Comments may also be submitted by e-mail to traffic@springfieldmo.gov.

If you are a person with disabilities and require special services at the public meeting, please notify the City (864-1980) so arrangements can be made.
