Household Chemical Collection Center Now Open Saturdays

Springfield-Greene County residents who may be cleaning up basements or garages after flooding from the recent heavy rains are reminded that the Household Chemical Collection Center is now offering Saturday hours.

The center began opening from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays in April. The Center also is open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The Tuesday and Thursday hours are designed to offer drop-off options before and after normal working hours.

Appointments are required, but residents can come in any time during the three-hour block on the day they request. Appointments can be made by calling 864-2000 or 864-1904 during normal business hours.

The types of items that can be taken to the HCCC include: automotive products; home-improvement products; pesticides; household cleaners; craft materials; pool chemicals; and more.

More information about the HCCC services is available on the City’s Web site at: www.springfieldmo.gov/recycling. Instructional video information on using the HCCC also is available on the City’s TV23 Web site at: tv23.springfieldmo.gov (click the April 13 CityBeat program).

One of only a handful of similar facilities, Springfield’s HCCC is a drive-through facility, with most appointments taking about 5 minutes. Materials cannot come from businesses – the facility holds permits only for household wastes.
